ASSIST – Mobilization of Community Towards Secure School
OVERALL AIM OF THE PROJECT
To develop in-service training courses that strengthens the role of the teacher as the facilitator and train teachers, community agency personnel, parents and students to assist in the social and emotional well – being of students at risk. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
Help schools develop policy so that they offer a rationale for this new approach.
Create a strategy for a safe and secure school environment
Develop school and community partnerships,
Assist community agencies in the cooperative role of sharing responsibility with schools,
Train parents in skills so that they can work with their own children more effectively,
Provide tailored attractive programs that meet young people’s individual needs and their aspirations; these programs will involve not only academically minded and socially well oriented young people but in particular empower the youth who have lost faith and future vision,
Encourage student peer participation in behaviour change, self-management, correctional counselling and school governance,
Be adaptable to a variety of educational formats according to the assessed needs of a particular school.
